Academic 支持

The Academic 支持 类 are two-semester, two credit 类 that meet during the school day. The 类 are designed to provide students with a structured, closely monitored learning environment in which they can develop the motivational, organizational 和 学术 skills needed to succeed in the classroom. The program offers additional help to students who need encouragement, accountability 和 the organizational tools to be successful learners who approach 学术 challenges with confidence. The Academic 支持 类 offer encouragement 和 支持 by:

• offering instruction in time management 和 classroom organizational skills;
• providing regular accountability for assignments 和 study preparation through the use of assignment calendars, notebooks 和 homework checks;
• offering instruction in study skills, such as note taking, research 写作, 阅读 comprehension, memorization, 和 test taking with the goal of helping students learn how to integrate these skills into the classroom;
• providing a safe environment for students to interact with their peers in sharing classroom successes 和 failures, 和, 因此, facilitating mutual learning;
• encouraging students to set 和 achieve realistic grade goals in order to foster confidence, growth 和 success;
• keeping parents informed of the student’s progress in acquiring 和 maintaining good organizational 和 study habits;
• providing a liaison between counselors, classroom 老师 和 parents to communicate 和 solve specific 学术 concerns.

Students who serve as Academic Mentors assist the instructor in achieving these goals. Class size is limited to six to ten students per class period.
